ED Stainless in Houston provides AWS Class ER385 MIG and TIG filler wire and rod, perfect for welding 300-series and some 400-series stainless steels. The company combines modern manufacturing with local knowledge, offering certified and traceable products at competitive prices. Having inventory on-site at ED Stainless’s Houston facility enables them to quickly meet regional fabrication and maintenance needs. ER385 material is designed for weldability, corrosion resistance, and stable mechanical properties. ED Stainless collaborates with engineers and welders to ensure optimal joint performance across various industries, adhering to AWS standards and delivering reliable filler metal solutions.
ER385 filler has 17–19% chromium, 10–12% nickel, low carbon (<0.08%), plus manganese and silicon. It is a single-phase austenitic alloy with a tensile strength of 75–85 ksi (515–585 MPa) and yield strength of 30–40 ksi (205–275 MPa). It offers 35–45% elongation, along with excellent ductility and resistance to brittle fractures. Hardness is moderate (about HRC 20–25), which supports good formability. The low carbon content reduces carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion. ER385 ensures reliable toughness and corrosion resistance after welding, making it easy to use across fabrication processes while maintaining structural integrity in service.

AWS Class ER385 filler is used for fabricating and repairing 304 and 316 stainless steels in chemical processing, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical equipment. It is well-suited for tank welding, piping systems, and pressure vessels, where moderate corrosion and mild acid resistance are needed. The filler is also applied in architectural stainless steel projects, handrails, and structural sections, supporting both industrial and decorative applications. In Houston’s petrochemical and water treatment sectors, ER385 is preferred for its good weldability with minimal pre- or post-weld heat treatment. It creates dependable joints in moderate environments using both MIG and TIG processes.
