ER308LSi is designed for welding 18-8 austenitic stainless steels such as 304 and 304L. The added silicon content improves arc stability, bead appearance, and weld pool fluidity, especially in MIG applications. It produces smooth, defect-free welds with minimal spatter. ER308LSi contains 19-21% chromium, 9-11% nickel, and 0.65-1.0% silicon, with carbon content ≤0.03%. The higher silicon level ensures excellent wetting action and bead smoothness. Mechanical properties include tensile strength of approximately 80 ksi, yield strength around 55 ksi, and elongation over 30%. The low carbon content reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion, while the silicon ensures stable arcs and clean welds. This alloy is suitable for high-speed MIG welding and precision TIG welding, providing reliable mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in mild industrial and structural environments.
